Monthly Message From AVVA

March 2011

On February 23, 2011, I attended a peaceful protest in Frederick, Maryland, to support the community in finding out answers to the contamination of Agent Orange at Fort Detrick and its surroundings.  Many Vietnam veterans came to our table to get information on the effects of Agent Orange.  I also spoke to wives from the community regarding their husbands who have different cancers from their exposure to Agent Orange while in service and told them of the importance of meeting with a veterans' service officer to make sure that they receive the benefits that they are and will be entitled to.  The community also came out, more women than men, who wanted information on Agent Orange and its effects.   AVVA is proud to have supported our veterans and the community of Frederick, and we will continue to spread the word about the health effects of Agent Orange on our veterans and their families.

To our Membership:

Thank you again for doing what you do best: endeavoring to assist our veterans and their families to have a better life.  Let us in the New Year, strive to end homelessness and bring hope to those who are oppressed.  May we discover enhanced ways in which to communicate with our government; may we become more cognizant of the atrocities of war; and, may we achieve improved benefits for our veterans and their families.  Be it PTSD, herbicidal effects, or suicides- Santa’s wish list goes on and on and our work is in no way done.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and in this holiday spirit we wish you and your family a blessed Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a very abundant New Year.

Nancy Switzer, Nat’l President
